Abawdy, black, murder mystery set in medieval France. Inspired by the true documented cases in medieval times of animal trials in continental Europe. Richard Coutois (Colin Firth) a young Parisian lawyer, moves to a small provincial town where he finds himself thrust into defending a pig accused of murder. The pig belongs to a young gypsy girl called Samira, whom Courtois falls in love with, but ultimately she is not prepared to lose her culture for the sake of love.
