Brideshead Revisted is a moving and tragic story, which chronicles the tempestuous journey of Charles Ryder through the tangled and stormy world of the aristocratic Marchmain family. It is an epic tale of this love - for his closest friend Sebastian Flyte, for Sebastian's sister Julia Flyte, and for an entire way of life.
When Oxford under-graduate Charles meets the charismatic Sebastian it is the beginning of a devoted friendship. Sebastian however soon sinks deep into alcoholism, distancing himself from all that he loves. Charles escapes to Paris to train as an artist, finding solace as an architectural painter but ending up in an unhappy marriage. A chance reunion with Sebastian's sister Julia revives his love of life as they embark on a passionate affair, only for their happiness to be shattered by the death of Julia's father, Lord Marchmain.
