The 1998 Academy Award Winner for Best Foreign Film is the debut feature from director Mike van Diem, based on the Dutch literary classic of the same title.
Set in 1920s Rotterdam, CHARACTER is a menacing thriller which begins with a tense and bitter confrontation between Jakob and his over-powering father Dreverhaven. Shortly after this confrontation, Dreverhaven is found murdered, and Jakob is arrested as the prime suspect.
