In February, 1942 Singapore fell to the Japanese and one hundred and twenty thousand British subjects were taken prisoner. Amongst them was Canadian doctor named Ben Wheeler. He became the only hope for a thousand men in a mining camp, working with only a small amount of medicine and tools in dreadful conditions. In addition to the diary he was allowed to keep he kept a personal account written to his wife Nell. This film was made by their daughter, Anne Wheeler, and is about courage, love and the human spirit that drove the Allies on to survive and overcome.
